Peer Review Process

The Journal of Waste to Value System (JWVS) operates a peer review system to ensure impartiality, objectivity, and the highest academic and scientific standards in the evaluation of submitted manuscripts.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

All newly submitted manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the editorial team to assess:

  • Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope (waste management, resource recovery, circular economy, sustainability, etc.)
  • Originality and scientific contribution
  • Compliance with formatting and submission requirements

Manuscripts that fall outside the journal’s focus or fail to demonstrate adequate academic merit may be desk rejected without external review.

Initial editorial decisions are typically made within 7 days of submission.

2. Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass initial screening are assigned to two or more independent reviewers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Waste-to-energy technologies
  • Resource recovery and recycling
  • Environmental engineering
  • Circular economy systems
  • Sustainable materials and processes

Both reviewer and author identities remain anonymous throughout the process to maintain fairness and neutrality.

3. Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and significance of the research
  • Scientific rigor, methodological quality, and data validity
  • Clarity and coherence of presentation
  • Relevance to the journal’s mission and readership
  • Contribution to advancing waste-to-value knowledge or practice

4. Decision Process

After receiving reviewer comments, the editorial team—led by the Editor-in-Chief—makes one of the following decisions:

Accept Minor Revision Major Revision Reject

Authors receive constructive, detailed feedback and are expected to revise and resubmit within the specified timeframe. Final publication decisions rest solely with the Editor-in-Chief.

5. Timeframe

JWVS aims to complete the peer review process within 4 to 6 weeks from the date of submission, depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript.
